Peniel Green Nursing Home Sat 28th February
The side visited the Peniel Green Nursing Home in Llansamlet, entertaining people there with our dances. We even got some folk up and dancing Brighton Camp with us. 

One lady, could be seen singing along to the words of our final dance Bonnie Green Garters, and it turned out she had belonged to the Swansea folk dance group Cam Carlam during the 1980s, and just after the time that Alison & Nigel Haworth danced with the group. Do love it when we meet people who used to dance or perform the mummers play in our area.

Saturday March 7th, Swansea University


This interesting event was organised by American post-doctoral worker Dr Bridget Bartlett, as part of the Early Modern European Neuro-Divergence project. Their interest was in the interaction of the morris fool and Maid Marian, played by a man. They admitted that until coming to Wales, they did not know that morris dancing still existed. The aim was for us to take part in a sort of re-enactment.
What the day demonstrated was that if you put a dozen morris people together, they can entertain and enjoy themselves!

Attendees from Sweyn’s Ey were Alison B, Alison H, Alistair, Geoff and Keith. We were joined by three from Cardiff Morris, three from Carreg Las, and flautist Ceri from Ledbury. Ceri’s father was Dave Jones, who did pioneering work researching border dances and founded Silurian Morris Men.
We started at 11am with breakfast – obviously an American thing. After introductions, Bridget spoke about neurodivergence. Time for lunch, a good selection of food.

Bridget clearly knew little about morris, including during the era of interest. We put together a set of three dances, Saturday Night Bucknell, Vandals of Hammerwich Lichfield and the Dillwyn dance, with two of Carreg Las as fool and Maid Marian.

At 4pm we put on a show for an audience, who we outnumbered. Maid Marian was more like a pantomime dame.
The funding for the project required community involvement. I think that was us.
